Fort Saskatchewan’s annual Sun Life Walk to Cure Diabetes will net roughly $29,000 for Type 1 Diabetes research, according to representatives from JDRF — the largest non-profit fundraiser for Type 1 Diabetes in the world.
Held on June 23, the fundraising walk saw more than 100 groups from Fort Saskatchewan, Sherwood Park and Ardrossan participate. Karen Zabinski, the peer-to-peer fundraiser and community engagement manager with JDRF said that number was consistent with previous years.
“There were over 100 groups participating. It’s around typical but it did seem as if a few more families came out to participate this year, but it was more or less consistent,” Zabinski said.
As of press time, the fundraiser had confirmed donations totalling $19,834.50 with an additional $5,314.05 pledged. Zabinski said that number is expected to grow over the coming days.
“Our goal was $20,000 and I think after all is said and done, we’ll make it close to $29,000,” she said.
